About Under: The Influence

This site is the result of many years of learning about, using, and sometimes abusing various bits and pieces of technology. It’s also about the realization that technology is often confusing, hard to choose, and even harder to use. So, we’ve decided to put some of that time we’ve spent to good use.

We’re going to help you decide which pieces of stuff you really need and we’re going to tell you why you need them. This isn’t like a lot of other “review” sites you may have encountered. After all, how helpful is it to be told the merits of a “Mango zPot” if you have no idea why you would ever have a use for one? Instead, we’re going to try to give you useful advice about what the various bits of techno stuff can do for you and then try to tell you about a few good products that you might like.

Who are we and why do we think we can be of any use to you? Glad you asked. Here’s a brief rundown on us:

Brian Underdahl is a long-time techie. He’s built all sorts of equipment and taken apart even more. He’s written 70+ technology-related books including over a dozen of the For Dummies titles (go ahead, look on your shelf if you want). He is the kind of guy whose friends and relatives always ask for tech advice. And yes, he is a Boomer.

Darlene Underdahl is also a boomer but she could pass for younger (heh). She has years of experience in Quality Control/Quality Assurance for American manufacturing (which isn’t of much use anymore), but never fear, she takes the “attention to detail” with her at all times. Now she’s blogging, writing, editing technical documents, reading, trying to garden intelligently in a desert, and regretting long-ago politics… Brian is frowning; this is not a political blog. Darlene out.
