A Great Thing Becomes Even Better

by Brian Underdahl

A few months ago I tried out the Jawbone Bluetooth headset and loved it. The unit was sleek, it worked great, and the sound quality was wonderful. It was hard to imagine any way to improve it. Boy, was I wrong!

Aliph (the maker of the Jawbone) wasn’t sitting on their butt waiting for other companies to catch up. Rather, they decided to simply stomp all over the competition by coming out with the new Jawbone 2. As much as I loved the original Jawbone, the new one is better in every way. I’m not often blown away by product upgrades, but this is the real deal!

The new Jawbone is less than half the size of the original, has even better sound quality, and it’s gone so far upscale in looks that you can’t help but love it. Where the older model (it seems strange saying that about a product that’s been out for about five months) had a rubber-coated ear loop, the new one has extremely comfortable leather. While the older model was fashionably small, the new one is far smaller. The older model was also a bit harder to place onto my ear (but still quite easy). And finally, I can’t believe how much they were able to improve the sound quality. I always told people how I was able to call my Dad and talk to him while I was cooking with the exhaust fan on high, but even that is nowhere close to how the new model sounds.

The New Jawbone is currently available through AT&T Wireless for $129.95, so it’s more expensive than many of the Bluetooth headsets you’ll find. But I’m reminded of something my father taught me while I was growing up. He said that “if you buy a good tool, it will last a long time, but if you buy a cheap one you’ll buy it over and over again.” That’s why it’s worth spending a bit more for something like the new Jawbone 2. You won’t end up tossing it in a few months and spending more for another model. Instead, you’ll be happy with it for a long time. Quality really does count!
